While rollerblading on the Wenatchee Loop Trail last February I rolled upon these wild swimmers, started taking pictures, and was then invited to participate. How could I not join them for a dip in the Columbia? For the next ten minutes, I was submerged up to my shoulders in the cold water, snapping pics.

Checking how much time is left to enjoy the numbing water.

I was happy to be out after ten minutes and back to warming myself via rollerblading extra hard.

The Wild Wenatchee Swimmers meet often to take advantage of the therapeutic benefits that come from cold water submersion.

The sand bar at Walla Walla Park makes for a good human launch to wade yourself into.

Extra points if you dip your head under.

Charlene, the founder of WWS started the group on Facebook during the pandemic for the health benefits and to keep people connected in the safety of the outdoors.

Charlene took the experience to another level and swam a couple of laps around the group.

Charlene will also knit you a hat after your third time out with the group. I need another two dips still!
